Project: To create a tabletop game rulebook based on a short story. This board game is inspired by the story "The Veldt" by Ray Bradbury and is called "The Nursery."

Short Story Inspired Tabletop Game Rulebook

This board game, called "The Nursery," was created as a team project. It was inspired by Ray Bradbury's story "The Veldt."  

“The Nursery” is a board game inspired by the short story "The Veldt" by Ray Bradbury. In its essence, the story is about the struggle between human beings and technology or artificial intelligence. 

The board game examines the relationship between human beings and technology, questioning whether automated advancements can substitute for human connection and care. Throughout the game, players confront the tension between technological dominance and the erosion of human agency. The players find themselves in this automated house, where advanced nursery technology has overtaken human relationships and agency. The board game is designed so that the struggle is evident during the gameplay; sometimes, one party wins, and sometimes, the other. They have their hidden agenda, and each party tries to win, where winning means taking control of the nursery. 

The people in the story consist of four players represented by pawns in this game; the psychologist serves as the lenticular laptop. The house layout functions as the board where the game is played. The conflict between both sets of players is to reach the nursery first in order to gain control. Whoever reaches first wins. 

This game represents the story "The Veldt." The story appears to be still relevant to our current AI landscape. Although it is a board game, the conflict is evident. 

All three team members participated and engaged in discussions to develop the game narrative. Most of the work and writing took place during class discussions, except for the document design, which was done by me. While not every move and card has been written and designed, the concept and the rulebook cover the overall idea and general rules of the game.
