Interactive Narrative
Interactive Narrative Projects
This page has three projects, which include short projects; the aim was to understand game development and interactive narrative. The exploration was done using Twine and Homebrewery. The final was the Game Concept document.
Game Concept Document Project
Project: To create a Game Concept Document, which is a high-level proposal for a game that would then be developed by a full team (developing the game was beyond the scope of this class project), but this is primarily a writing-based project. This project was to create a proposal with the initial idea for a game, the interactive narrative itself, and a change log documenting/reflecting on the process in developing the game.
Game Concept Document
Summary:
Building My Beautiful Dream Garden is a gardening game where players plan, learn, design and nurture their dream garden. The goal is to create a personalized garden that evolves with time, and eventually gets filled with beautiful flowers, colorful roses, lush greenery, trees, calming water features and beautiful landscaping. This game encourages players to build this garden at their own pace, learn about plants, discover and unlock new plants, and watch their garden grow and flourish over time.
While this appears to be a simple activity, this requires a lot of detailing which can be added at different levels of the game. The basic aim is for plant-lovers to enjoy virtual gardening while they build their dream garden and nurture it on a regular basis. This garden simulation cozy game is slow paced; it is expected to be relaxing, calming and bring meditative joy to players while also being an joyful educational simulation game.
The game concept document and the change log are shared below.

Twine Project
This was a short project where an interactive narrative for a game was developed in Twine.
This is a garden game. The game concept is that the player moves to a new home and wants to explore different gardening options. The twine project was created to explore the different routes that the player can take.
Here is my Twine Project.
Homebrewery Project
Project: This was a short project; the goal was to adapt the Homebrewery template to create a one-page handbook section for a game, export the handbook page as a PDF (one page), and write a brief note about the experience of creating the document.
As this was my first attempt, and the assignment suggested "adapt the template," I started with just that. I started updating the existing document with my notes, and I could see the changes and learned a few things. While I could not try out all the features on the first attempt, I prepared a one-page document. I did try to add hyperlinks for YouTube videos and embed images using public domain images from Wikimedia Commons. I had to adjust the placements for the images from the codes.
Although not exactly like HTML, familiarity with HTML helped me understand the basic principles of Homebrewery. I tried to use my other garden-themed project to play around and see the results in Homebrewery. The writing and the game rules for the game I proposed need to be defined and refined as this is not a complete game, yet. I added some elements of the "Would you rather" game.
Regarding content creation and design process, the Homebrewery template looks neat and pretty. Wile using it for the first time, I felt it was good for presentation and portfolio purposes. Instead of black and white text, this certainly looks more "story" centric and creative. It is good to learn new ways to design.
