Social Media Posts

Project: To create three original pieces of content that would engage a KSU English or MAPW social media audience (Facebook/Instagram), including the post text and relevant handles/hashtags, as well as the alt text for images and captions for videos. These could include still images, video, or a combination thereof, with the needed permissions.

Creating social media content is learning how to write for a continually evolving landscape in which the audiences, trends, tools, and algorithms are constantly shifting and in which a timely, consistent presence is key. The aim of this project was to think strategically about what we want to share and why, as well as to explore some tools that make this process a little easier.

Post 1:

Decatur Book Festival was held on Oct 4-5 at Decatur, Georgia. MAPW students from KSU participated in the readings at The Reading Room, Decatur, on Oct 4. Dr. Kurt Milberger introduced the emerging student writers. MAPW students read their pieces, which included short fiction, a part of their longer pieces, and poetry.

Kennesaw State University – A Student Showcase presents the profiles of these students at the link below:

Reflection on Post 1:

This piece is a brief coverage for the Kennesaw State University – A Student Showcase at the Decatur Book Festival held on Oct 4-5. The MAPW students from KSU participated in the readings at The Reading Room, Decatur and I was also a participant

As this was a public event, KSU social media already has a group photo posted, the Decatur Book Festival website has the student photos and profile posted. So, no release form was signed by the participants (it was a public event). This post is created as a video, and public profiles of students have been used from this webpage:

https://decaturbookfestival.com/session/kennesaw-state-university-a-student-showcase/

This post promotes KSU and the students, adding to their profile as emerging writers and giving confidence to prospective KSU students to enroll in the program. As this event has already passed, it is best to present it as soon as possible (if approved to be posted).

This post was created on PowerPoint. In addition to the above, I used some of the photos I clicked at the event (eg. the ones in the background). I converted the PowerPoint as mp4, and as .mov file. There is no audio in this file.

Reflection on Posts 2 and 3:

These posts are related to the same video above in Post 1 but as photos from the PowerPoint slides that I created as a video. Only slide 1 (video) is not included. Multiple options were created, with different layouts, to choose from and see which one works best. Any of these could be posted as a single slide or could be used as a combination or a group of images.

These posts and images promote KSU's MAPW program and the students, adding to their profile as emerging writers and giving confidence to prospective KSU students to enroll in the program. As this event has already passed, if approved to be posted, it was suggested to post as soon as possible.

This post was created on PowerPoint. In addition to the above, I used some of the photos I clicked at the event (eg. the ones in the background). I exported the PowerPoint slides as .png files, all of which have been presented below.

Adding a video from the event  (this was not a part of the social media posts I created) - reading my poems at the Reading Room, Decatur Book Festival, Decatur, Georgia.
